Riva is the one Kettal family made almost entirely in teak: sofas, a low lounge chair, a garden chair, a rectangular table and coffee tables, with marble tops as an alternative on the low tables. Band, by Patricia Urquiola, comes either all in teak or all in aluminum, chair and club armchair alike.

Elsewhere teak works alongside other materials. Mesh sets a solid wooden sofa base against expanded metal backs. Plumon dresses a teak or iroko frame in a padded cover. Giro puts recycled rope on a teak base, and Il Colonnato offers its column-leg tables in teak as well as marble and stone.

how teak ages outside

Teak left bare weathers to an even silver gray within a season or two. Oiled or treated once or twice a year, it keeps a warm brown. Neither choice affects how long the wood lasts; it is purely a question of looks. Tell us which you prefer and we note the care it needs.

Wood patio furniture of any kind dislikes standing water, so feet and bases matter. Lift cushions after rain and keep the feet off a soaked lawn.
