kettal boma

comfort under a firm frame

Boma came from a practical tension. Outdoor furniture has to cope with sun and rain, yet buyers now expect the comfort of an indoor sofa outside as well. Dordoni answered with an aluminum frame whose plain lines keep both the quality of the materials and the regrouping of the pieces out of sight. Steel is also listed among the materials. The upholstery then does the work of comfort, and the structure stays in the background.

The family is broad. The modular sofa builds corners and long runs; fixed sofas come in two, three and four seat lengths; there is an armchair with armrests, an upholstered daybed and a bench. A four seat Kettal Boma sofa with a pair of armchairs already furnishes a generous lounge, and the bench can close the far side of a coffee table without blocking the view.

The fabric is mass-dyed acrylic. The color is set into the fiber before it is woven, so strong summer light finds no surface dye to bleach and the shade holds for many seasons. The aluminum beneath it will not rust, which matters for houses near the coast or around a salt water pool. In winter, the sensible step is to cover the sofas or keep the cushions somewhere dry.

Boma suits buyers who want Kettal outdoor furniture that behaves like a living room sofa. The daybed turns a corner of the deck into a place to stretch out, and the modular pieces can be pulled apart when a party needs more seats in more places. Dordoni's Bitta families lean on braided rope; Boma is his upholstered answer. For a quote, send a rough plan of the space and the pieces in mind.
