one frame, many seats

The name points to movement, to going from one place to another. Bouroullec wanted a chair that could make that trip as well: from a cafe terrace to a kitchen, from a city balcony to a country garden. Passage is meant for indoor and outdoor use, so the same model can run through a house and out onto the patio with no change in style.

Look closely and the plain outline gives way to detail. The welds are clean, the joints are precise, and the backrest is a single extruded piece that slides over the frame. Aluminum keeps the chair light enough to pull back from a table and strong enough for daily use. It does not rust, and Kettal points out that the metal is both recycled and recyclable.

The seat is where buyers make their choice. Rope and woven fabric feel soft and open, textilene is a taut coated mesh that sheds water, rattan brings a natural fiber look, plywood gives a firm wooden seat and the padded version is the most upholstered. Rope, woven fabric and textilene come on the armless chair and the armchair, while rattan, plywood and padding are offered with armrests.
